AI created a genuinely creepy podcast about my next book.

I thought I wrote about turning the tools of rhetoric onto yourself. But...

Using Google’s genuinely astonishing AI for writers and note-takers, NotebookLM, I uploaded a PDF of the latest draft of my book and asked for an “audio overview.” The AI created an 18-minute podcast with two attractive-sounding hosts. Their “discussion” of the book isn’t inaccurate, exactly. In fact, it sounds exactly like what robots trained on all the right social cliches would conclude after reading the book.

But they did read it fast! If you’ve written anything longish—say, over 2,000 words—give it a shot.

At the same time, the site’s other summary tools did a superb job of highlighting the more original points. I’m planning to upload all my notes to this site in the future; it helps me not just recall but also synthesize my reading and research.

Let me know if you’ve used this site. And tell me what you think of students using it.
