I’m intrigued by your point about your parents’ disinterest in you, based on being one of four. Me too! And, as the youngest, I was free because my brothers had already explored and fulfilled so many ways of being. They achieved in school, went to Brainy U, walked lockstep into careers. So when I got my English major and fled for Europe it was a refreshing change, which my disinterest parents applauded. The disinterest of those around you gives you room to do something interesting, in fact.
My older siblings were hair-raisers who made me seem obedient. They would fight every request to do a chore, while I would say “OK” and not do it. My parents always seemed grateful.
